I have played it when Gameworks first came out (when they opened in Grapevine Mills Mall) and it was okay. Not a decent fighter like KOF or Street Fighter, but it was okay.

yup, Sonic the Fighter is in fact a true game. Released in Japan as Sonic Championship (I believe) it was 1 on 1 battles between two Sonic characters, all to see who will go to the Death Egg and fight Robotnik. Each character had their seperate styles and whatnot, but only playing as Sonic and defeating Robotnik under the time limit, would you go super and fight Metal Sonic. Im fairly certain this is true, and if some parts arent, feel free to correct it. This game is the only other arcade-only (may have been on Japanese Saturn but meh) that i know of, the other one being the rollerball Sonic arcade game featuring Sonic, Mighty, and Ray the Squirrel. Very interesting games indeed.

SEGA needs to release this in America in a game compilation(GCN or PS2 recommended).
Or a major #@^#load update(better graphics, more characters, Create a fighter option, etc) -------------------- Diamond Pirate Crew: Watts Daimando(Captain), Bunnie, Cream, Antoine, Tails, *Is accepting new members for the Diamond Pirates.*

What i say is they should make a Sonic Battle Extreme something or other for the Gamecube and then put this little gem in there as a little easter egg. Now that would be even better!

Sega is unlikely to create or remake Sonic Fighter though. They need to stop making Sonic games for a while. Now before yall punks flame me, Sega needs to team up with either Namco or Silicon Knights (like they did with F-Zero and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes) and try their damm hardest to create a perfect or near perfect solid 3D Sonic game.

They don't play that way. If the Sonic series is still selling, they'll continue pumping out more titles.
Besides, a lot of people want SEGA to focus only on the Sonic series. And I'd like to see SOnic do something different. -------------------- Diamond Pirate Crew: Watts Daimando(Captain), Bunnie, Cream, Antoine, Tails, *Is accepting new members for the Diamond Pirates.*

They better have that Big guy from Advance Wars as well if they make another Smash Bros. game. (Scratches head) Opps, sorry! They better have Shadow on there as well.

Oh yeah, i remember playing this in Lakeline Mall. This was one of the best fighting games ever. Although the graphics looked better in the 90's. The game for the US is called Sonic The Fighters or Sonic Fighters, i cant remember and the Japanese name is Sonic Championship. I remember in the arcade, the title of it said Sonic the Fighters, not Sonic Championship. But, that would rock, if SEGA did a remake of the game, with better graphics, more stages, more characters (including shadow, rouge, and maybe even chao). But heck, the chances of that are slim. Same goes for Sonic being in the next super smash bros game, since Super Smash bros is only for nintendo superstars. I give Sonic the Fighters a 8/10. Only problem was the graphics, voices should've been added, and the music wasnt that great. Its a shame its only an arcade game

It's called Sonic the Fighters, not Sonic Fighters.
I've read about it from Green Gibbon! on the GHZ, and it doesn't look as exciting as I was thinking it would be. At least the soundtrack CD is awesome. |
