If Sonic X was dubbed by ADV Films (the same people who dubbed the Sonic OAV), what do you think it would turn out to be like, and who do you think would have voiced the characters?

This is a similar topic to the "If Sonic X Was Dubbed By Fundi". Except this is a perspective on ADV Films.

If Sonic X were dubbed by ADV, I think they should have kept the original voices too the Sonic OAV of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman. I don't know about the other characters though.

I think also that the show will be less "kiddy" and it would have been like the movie in general. They probably would have kept in all the parts from the japanese anime that 4Kids edited out.

Random thinking is fun.

Because Im an ADV fan, I'll be the lone poster here.

I already mentioned some stuff in the previous thread that I won't mention in this.

I just noticed another reason, ADV will keep the song due to Funimation recent trend of dubbing the openings. And it would just be fine is ADV could easily keep it.

If the Sonic OVA is anything to go by everyone would have even worse voices than the ones 4Kids gave us. I could not stand the voices in the OVA, Martin Burke is the worst Sonic voice ever.

While the Sonic OVA is the only ADV dub I've ever seen, I'd like to assume the dub would be pretty accurate to the original. But the voices would make me not want to watch it, I'll take the 4Kids voices any day, which aren't even that bad to begin with.

If the cast from the OVA was used, then Sonic and Knuckles would have terrible voices, not acting wise, but they sure didn't fit their personalties.

Aside from that, it would get uncut, dual-audio releases and would have been a better dubbed production over all.

They'd jam all 78 episodes together and call it Sonic the Hedgehog The Movie 2.

But in all seriousness, they'd probably just hire the game cast to do the voices for the show. (Not that I known much about ADV myself, other than the Sonic OVA.)

Though they're not great, I'm ok with all the ADV voices. If ADV had dubbed Sonic X it would have been a lot better than what got. I'd have happily had Sonic X use the OVA voices if it meant a better quality dub.

However I doubt ADV would have had much, if any interest in Sonic X. It doesn't seem like the type of anime they'd go for.

QUOTE (Mario Murderer @ Jan 7 2008, 11:11 PM) *
I think also that the show will be less "kiddy" and it would have been like the movie in general. They probably would have kept in all the parts from the japanese anime that 4Kids edited out.

Series 1 was kiddy as a whole, even in Japanese. A good dub isn't magical. D= Series 2 was dark enough, yeah.

I personally didn't like the majority of the OVA voices, myself. Sonic's wouldn't have been quite as painful if it didn't change about four times over the course of the hour, despite having the same actor throughout.

Frankly though, Sonic X is a mismatch for ADV. They generally work with more mature anime that are a little more obscure and a little less mainstream. At it's core, Sonic X is a kids' show. The majority of ADV's target audience will have little to no interest in Sonic X, and vice versa.

Sonic just fits into that awkward category, really. It's too childish as a whole for an uncut dub to be worth a companies' time (admit it, most of the cuts and changes made to the dub -minus the addition of bad jokes- were for time as opposed to objectionable content), and it's only really the voices, music and stupid dialogue edits that annoy people.

If it had been dubbed by ADV, it probably wouldn't have even aired on TV (much less on a channel where kids would actually watch it), and thus would have fared considerably more poorly than it did.

*just wants to raise his hand in saying he prefers all the OVA dub voices to the 4kids ones*

Bare in mind that back then they had no existing voices to work off and I have to say that they did a good job getting the personalities right.

Anyway, ADV are pretty consistant with their work. They would have probably got the game VAs. Often they give their english actors equivilant roles to Japanese actors (like how Haruhi and Konata have the same Japanese and English VAs - I know ADV didn't dub Haruhi and Lucky Star but the only other example I have (Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemy) is probably too obscure).

Guys, you should know that ADV has improved since that OVA?

They have even more (and better) actors now, you know?

I'd be cool with it, just as long as they don't call Knuckles a mole... At least that is what I heard happened when they dubbed the OVA.

Well, it was never specifically mentioned in the OVA itself, just in the character profiles in the extras.

Of course, it doesn't help that the Japanese words for 'Echidna' and 'Mole' are very, very similar. Heck, the actual Japanese translation for 'Echidna' literally means "Spiky mole".

Sarah calls Knuckles "Mr. Mole" when he saves her from falling to her death at the north pole.

I also don't remember Knuckles being called a mole in the OVA itself. I do know its in his bio on the DVD though.

I thought it was more like they were showing Sarah's ditziness (or stupidity) by call ing him Mr. Moleman. It could be that possibly.
