I've done another comprison, this time for episode 19. This wasn't was detailed as the episode 26 one, mainly because I care less about the changes in this episode, and there were less changes and cuts.

Anyway, as usual, if I miss anything, let me know.

________________________________

Episode 19 comparison:Japanese name: “The ghost of King Boom Boo in the old castle.”

English name: “Sonic’s scream test”

The episode title card was cut, as with every episode.

The star is cut from the moon side of the hourglass, which I can assume was to remove any possible religious references. However, it does look stupid later in the episode when the symbol bursts with light, and you see a star-shaped glow. tongue.gif

When they are filming, and Lindsey walks past King Boom Boo’s room, one of the film crew states that there is a ‘noise’ causing a disturbance. In the Japanese version, you hear King Boom Boo growl every time she walks past, but in the dub, there *IS* no noise. Yet the guy still moans about a noise causing interference.

When Lindsey sees her ‘ghost face’ in the mirror, it says “Well, hello there”. In the raw, it simply said “Chris”.

Just before the ghosts come out of the wall, Cream said: “What? What’s the matter?” When Cheese got scared. In the dub, she simply says “Did you hear something, Cheese?”

When everyone is being sucked into the wall, after Sonic is taken in, Amy cries. In the Japanese version, she said “Sonic… sonic… everyone…everyone.” The dub simply changes it all to “Sonic…”. Not exactly important, but a change nonetheless. wink.gif

Just before Amy and Chris go underground, a scene with the police arriving and talking with the movie producers was cut.

After Amy gets hit by a drip and screams, there was then a short scene where Amy was holding onto Chris, saying that maybe they should go back to station square. This was cut in the dub.

Originally, when King Boom Boo was speaking through Sonic, you could hear Sonic’s voice underneath King Boom Boo’s speech. In the dub, this was changed to only King Boom Boo’s voice. Not exactly a major sin, but it does make Amy seem EXTRA EXTRA stupid, because he sounds nothing like Sonic.

When Amy is first possessed by a Boom, she mentions King Boom Boo’s name. She doesn’t in the dub. Also, originally possessed Amy had a super-high voice, whereas dub possessed Amy seems to get more growly.

Originally, when the ghost gets out of Amy, it’s because Sonic karate-chopped her neck. This short scene was removed, making it seem as though the ghost just decided to float out of it’s own accord. tongue.gif

As Chris’ mom wakes up, she originally says something along the lines of “What, is it morning already?” and Chris says “It’s not morning.” This is replaced (rather well this time, might I add) with “How was I in that take?” with Chris replying “This isn’t a movie”.

Now, for one confusing bit. I don’t know what was said in the Japanese version here, so I can’t be sure if this was translated properly or not. Well, when Chris slams the hourglass thing down, Amy and Sonic say that Chris ‘messed up’ by putting it with the moon side up.
Now, the reason I suspect a foul translation is because

1. Sonic looks happy and
2. If he got it wrong, why aren’t the ghosts coming out?

Ah well. If anyone can clear this up for me, I’ll be grateful.

Finally, another thing. Right at the end, when the police start talking, he says that his granddad used to live in that castle. The dub just changes it to some guy who went there and was ‘ever heard from again’.

Overall, this was not too bad. Once again I’d say average, but only just. All the regular voices were on form, but the ghosts voices were… not good. Then again, I suppose 4Kids only sees them as minor parts (and they are, really). However, there were a few dodgy translations, on top of the usual awful added puns, which made the end of this episode confusing.

Can you give me an example of the puns? I need to laugh, and otherwise, I havn't had a good cringe in a while.

Now then, maybe Citv can hurry up and show some more episodes, so I can see this for myself. THEN I'd have to save up for JAP dvds, since the .rms are hard to find these days.....

I don't want to resort to French Episodes again. XD

Hmm... there weren't SO many puns in episode 19, and some of them were kinda clever. But still...

(Sonic on the film set, weird thing happens)

"I don't think this is part of the movie"

"Heh! They didn't stand a GHOST of a chance!"

(pukes)

That second one is criminally bad.

I think I noticed something else.

At that scene where Chris slams down the hourglass and messes up, he just says "I messed up, then..." and in the Jap. version Sonic says something like "it's alright!" or "it's okay!" in clear english o__O (I don't have the episode anymore, so I forgot) In the Dub, after Chris admits that he messed up, Sonic goes "Yep, pretty bad!" But still gives a bit of a thumbs-up anyway.

Ugh, that second pun made me want to go throw up. Yeesh =x;

Oyyy... I personally thought this episode was about half killed. The Japanese version WAS almost scary but this... was just... not. At all, really. Maybe cause I'd already seen the original, but anyway...

I mean, Amy's voice sounded like insane in the original, in the dub it was just... angry... and then there's the whole thing with Sonic's voice and King Boom Boo at the same time. And the ending was beyond messed up... and if it was the same in the original... ... ... that's still messed up. Was kinda pointless of them to edit out Sonic hitting the ghost out of Amy, too...

LEt me make a special note. Right before Amy begins banging on the wall(Right after thw wall closes up), listen carefully. In the dub, notice for a second you hear the original music.

It sounds like a soundeffect when the walls come together, but it's really part of the original music.(Check the OST, you'll see what I mean)
