You may think Shadow is missing from the poll, but let me remind you that he was never a villain of his own accord. From the beginning he was a pawn for his creator Dr Gerald Robotnik, and later he fought alongside Sonic to save the world at the end of SA2, then again in Sonic Heroes.

The same might apply to the Gizoid since it simply does as it was programmed, but then I'd have to remove Metal Sonic too, since he was programmed to eliminate Sonic by any means necessary. And if I did that there'd be too few poll options.

So basically I'm sorry about not including Shadow, but...

Fang would have to have made a final boss appearance to make the poll.

To the best of my knowledge he's only been a rival Chaos Emerald hunter in Sonic Triple Trouble, and an opponent in Sonic the Fighters.

What happened to Gmel of Sonic Advance 3?

I said Biolizard. He was the threat in Sonic's biggest adventure, IMO Sonic Adventure 2. Plus, he's the only scary monster so far. Those little warts you have to burst when you verse it is rather disgusting, too.

If there's one you know for certain about Eggman it's that he ALWAYS sticks around to watch when one of his pride&joy henchmen are on the march. So seeing as there's no Eggman to be seen anywhere while Eggrobo stalls Knuckles while Mecha Sonic swipes the Master Emerald, it's believable that the robots are acting without his permission or knowledge.

Eggman himself probably gave up on the Master Emerald for a good long while after Sonic destroyed his ultimate creation the Death Egg (even today he's never quite peaked that one).

(Super) Mecha Sonic was smashed into tiny bits at the end, though. So while Metal Sonic will always come back for another round, Mecha is quite dead.

Chaos ownz. Metal Sonic = too similar to Sonic. Biolizard = A salamander with a stick up its butt. Gizoid = awesome, but I prefer Chaos. Chaos doesn't have to rely on programming. And, Chaos's inability to speak (and thus, only it knows what it's planning) makes it a bit creepy. And who wouldn't think a villain who can take a good machine-gunning and then drop them out its body?

Hey wait a minit,
in S&K and Sonic3&Knux,In Knuckles' adventure I remember in the Flying Battery the Boss was Eggman himself and not Eggrobo, so I think Eggman was in on killing off Knux too
but as for Mecha Sonic swiping the emerald, he probly figured he could destroy Knux on his own and used the emerald after the Death Egg was destroyed
(obviously the Death Egg was destroyed before Knux's final Battle)

Knuckles's entire story takes place after the destruction of the Death Egg. The truth is that the Eggman boss at the end of Flying Battery Zone is an oversight, a glitch. Sonic Team didn't design sprites for Eggrobo to be seen from the front, like Eggman is in that particular boss fight.

Eggrobo is really meant to replace ALL Eggman sprites in Knuckles's story, but it misses where the sprites don't match. For instance if you use the Level Select cheat to access Death Egg Zone with Knuckles you'll see Eggman running into the giant Egg Mech, but you'll see Eggrobo flying out of it with the Master Emerald in tow. I've also seen Eggman in Mushroom Hill Zone a few times after dying in the boss battle as Knuckles.

Note also that in Knuckles's story the Death Egg is missing in the background of Launch Base Zone and Lava Reef Zone. This is because Sonic already destroyed it before the echidna's story began.
